We invite Eco-A volunteers, neighbors and friends of Grove Park to participate in the continued restoration efforts of this special and unique remnant old-growth forest. We'll focus on removing invasive species carefully from this high-value forest. Join us for an urban hike of about 3 miles along the forested trails at Southside Park. This trail network, often used by mountain bikers, is part of an extended forest area not far from Lake Charlotte Preserve. Joel Slaton, who spent his youth exploring woodlands in Atlanta's southeast quadrant will co-lead our walk, and may be able to take us to the ruins of an old trolley car. The Pickett's Mill historic site, located west of Atlanta near Dallas, GA, hosts over 700 acres of forested landscape with several fields and a historic cabin. The Battle of Pickett's Mill was one of several Civil War battles occurring in preparation for the Battle of Atlanta.
