Volunteer – D’Agnese Natural Area

June 16 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a rare chance to visit a premiere Atlanta greenspace — and help restore it!

This unique area is a protected City of Atlanta Watershed Management property along Utoy Creek. This property contains a mix of ecosystems from floodplain to ridgetop, and it includes old growth forest remnants and a botanically rich slope that hosts many uncommon native species.

We’ll enjoy a walk into the forest, visiting an interesting boulder outcrop, then we’ll work remove some invasive species carefully to protect the most sensitive areas.

Be prepared to walk off-trail, ford a small creek, just a few inches deep to reach our work area, but it is well worth it to experience this kind of superlative greenspace that can still be found within the City limits of Atlanta.

We’ll walk approximately 1 – 1.5 miles mostly off-trail. Please bring work gloves and we recommend wearing lightweight long pants, and sturdy close-toed shoes, as we may be working in shrubby areas.

Due to Covid-19 precautions, we are not re-using gloves, so please bring your own, or we can provide a brand new, unused pair for $5 that you can take home with you (and use next time). We’ll supply tools such as clippers, loppers, small saws, and digging tools if needed.

This is a Covid-safe event — we’ll be outdoors at all times following CDC recommended guidelines. And of course if you do not feel well, please consider joining us another time!
