Perseid Meteor Shower at Valley View Ranch, Lookout Mountain, GA
Each year we host a special event for the Perseid meteor shower, one of the year’s most prolific meteor showers, created from the residue of the Swift-Tuttle comet. We are lucky to again be able to watch this year’s Perseids from the 600-acre Valley View Ranch, an historic horse riding camp for girls, on the top of Lookout Mountain, northwest of Rome, GA. We invite Eco-A volunteers, neighbors and friends of Grove Park to participate in the continued restoration efforts of this special and unique remnant old-growth forest. We'll focus on removing invasive species carefully from this high-value forest. We'll show how to recognize old growth forest remnants and we'll end with a short walk to a beautiful section of Proctor Creek or walk thru the high forest near the ridgeline. Private Walks and Group Events with Eco-A In addition to our publicly announced naturalist walks, Eco-A offers walks and educational outings to companies, neighborhood associations, garden clubs, churches, friends of parks groups and others. We offer both general and themed walks for all ages in any greenspace. Sample themes include Native Tree Identification, Old Growth and Original Native Forest, Native Songbirds, Forest Intelligence and more. Explore a path less traveled along a section of the Rockdale River Trail. This multi-use path is part of the South River-Arabia Mountain-Rockdale River trail system that follows much of Atlanta's South River as it traverses South DeKalb County and flows on into Rockdale County. Please join Eco-A, Friends of South Bend Park and Sustainable Lakewood for a forest restoration volunteer session at South Bend Park! We're partnering with Waste for Use and Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy for a special volunteer day, Sat, Sept 24, specifically to combat Japanese Chaff Flower and which, without our work, will damage many acres of this beautiful park! Japanese Chaff Flower (JCF) is one of the most invasive plants we've ever seen. It spreads exponentially, mostly finding it's way into our parks and yards by folks walking dogs.
