Naturalist Bike Ride – Silver Comet Trail

June 23 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Hop on your bike and join Kathryn for a tour of relic trees, uncommon species, neo-tropical songbirds, and wildlife signs – including an impressive network of beaver dams – all to be found while riding along the Silver Comet Trail, just west of Atlanta. We’ll cruise at a comfortable pace stopping at points of interest. The trail corridor here is forested, hosting a great opportunity to learn native species easily seen along the trail edges from several habitat types. We’ll stop to see less common species, including native phlox and ashy hydrangea, and experience the sensitive brier, one of very few plants that respond quickly to touch.

We’ll begin at the Hiram Trail parking area, and turn around just past Rambo Nursery for a total ride of about 14 miles – and of course you can turn around to go back to the parking area anytime. This section of the trail has some mild to moderate hills — depending on who you ask — but we won’t be riding fast and we’ll be stopping from time to time.

We’ll start our ride later in the afternoon as the light gets more beautiful and temps begin to drop. Electric bikes welcome!

We’ll limit this ride to 10 people to keep the group fairly small – for those interested we might opt to get dinner at a nearby spot before driving home.

Note: There is a restroom location at the midpoint of this ride.
