Stone Mountain, Naturalist Walk

July 19, 2020 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am

This event is full – now taking wait list

One of our classic Eco-A walks! We return to our inaugural Eco-A Walk on this less-traveled lake loop trail, located on the southern, natural side of the mountain. This is a great walk for an overview on how different trees and plant communities are supported by seemingly small changes in topography — changes noticed within just a few feet of slope, or by turning a bend in the trail. An impressive diversity of native trees and plants are found in a rather small area due to a variety of changes in the landscape. This trail is an ideal naturalist learning trail and serves as an excellent illustration of the richness of the Georgia Piedmont.

Many bird species as well as beaver, muskrat, fox, deer and other wildlife call this home, and we often see wildlife signs left by these park residents.

We’ll get an early start to beat the heat and crowds, and we’ll walk about 2 miles on natural trails with some hills.
