Volunteer – Chestnut Oak Ridge

May 4 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Help us restore a special native forest in north Atlanta with Sandy Springs Eco-Stewards!

Believe it or not, this old growth forest remnant survives on a steep slope and floodplain between the confluence of two creeks sandwiched between neighborhood yards and a highly developed commercial corridor. Chestnut Oak, rare in metro Atlanta, is found on the upper slopes.

We need your help removing invasive species from this rare forest gem to prevent use of toxic chemical sprays. Stewards-in-training from EcoAddendum’s Sandy Springs Stewardship Program will help lead our group.

We’ll walk approximately .25 – .5 miles mostly off-trail. Please bring work gloves and we recommend wearing lightweight long pants, and sturdy close-toed shoes, as we may be working in shrubby areas.

Due to Covid-19 precautions, we are not re-using gloves, so please bring your own, or we can provide a brand new, unused pair for $5 that you can take home with you (and use next time). We’ll supply hand tools such as clippers, loppers, small saws, and digging tools if needed.

To register (RSVP) click HERE  – Details and directions sent to registered participants (limit 15)

A donation of $15 or more helps sustain our programs.
