D’Agnese Greenspace Volunteer & Naturalist Walk

March 11, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a rare chance to visit a premiere Atlanta greenspace as well as help restore it. This unique area is a protected City of Atlanta Watershed Management property along Utoy Creek. This property is a mix of ecosystems from floodplain to ridgetop, and it includes old growth forest remnants and a botanically rich slope with that hosts Buckeye, Toothwort, Bloodroot, Trillium, Wild Comfrey and many other uncommon spring native species.

We’ll enjoy a walk into the forest, visiting an interesting boulder outcrop, and then we’ll remove some invasive species, especially Privet, to protect the most sensitive area.

Be prepared to walk off-trail, ford a small creek, and we many ascend a fairly steep slope. We may need to do a little light bushwacking to see some interesting features, but it is well worth it to experience this kind of superlative greenspace that can still be found within the City limits of Atlanta.

We’ll walk approximately 1 – 1.5 miles mostly off-trail. Please bring work gloves and we recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes, as we may be working in shrubby areas.

Due to Covid-19 precautions, we are not re-using gloves, so please bring your own, or we can provide a brand new, unused pair for $5 that you can take home with you (and use next time).  We’ll supply tools such as clippers, loppers, small saws, and digging tools.

This is a Covid-safe event — we’ll be outdoors at all times following CDC recommended guidelines. And of course if you do not feel well, please consider joining us another time!
