Flint River Kayak and Riverside Camping 2021

August 28, 2021 @ 11:00 am - August 29, 2021 @ 11:00 am

Join us for a paddle on the Flint River and an overnight riverside camp-out near Thomaston, GA. Cathy Ashberry hosts our group at her new private camp site in an open area along the river with several large shade trees.

On Saturday we’ll paddle about 2-3 hours with expert Flint river guide Quint Rogers — yes he is related to Flint Riverkeeper Gordon Rogers. Paddling is easy on mostly flat, fairly shallow water with a few rocky shoals, appropriate for those with limited paddling experience. This year will be even easier since we’ll take out of the river before reaching the main part of Snipe Shoals.

You are also welcome to just come and camp without paddling if you prefer.

Quint Rogers will share his wealth of knowledge about river ecology, and we’ll learn about the interesting ecosystem features of this unique part of Georgia, where the Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain. Attendees will have the option to hike and explore along the river and woodlands on Sunday morning.

Camping is primitive and participants will bring their own food, but a grill will be provided.

Access to the camp is not possible in regular vehicles, so we’ll use an off-road vehicle shuttle.

Save the date –

Cost: $65 if you bring your own kayak $85 if you need to rent a kayak

Limited to 15 attendees.
