Join us for an informative walk near Tanyard Creek and the Atlanta Beltline, near Northside Drive and Peachtree Road
We’re partnering with Friends of Tanyard Creek Park, Friends of Louise G. Howard Park, and the Collier Hills North Neighborhood Association in removing invasives without heavy chemical use in order to restore this older forest gem greenspace. You may have walked or biked past this pocket park, right off the Beltline, without recognizing uncommon species and the cathedral-like feel of the trees once you step into the forest.
We’ll share great naturalist info but with a focus on restorative care. We’ll describe forest dynamics and ID both native and invasive species and discuss strategies and priorities for invasive removal, including a work plan for the different seasons in order not to harm native species.
If your property holds urban forest or even old growth remnants, you can apply this knowledge to your own have a backyard!
We’ll walk approximately 1/4 mile on the paved path, but we’ll be spending most of out time off-trail in the woodland area. We will not be doing much work on this walk, we’ll mostly focus on species ID, but you might want to bring a clippers or a pruning saw as we may demo working with a few different invasive species.
