This walk is full, now taking wait list
Fall is a great time to tune into the amazing forms and colors of the leaves of our native trees, and this walk takes us to one of DeKalb County’s newest nature preserves, the 21-acre Briarlake Forest. We’ll focus on both the art of the natural forms we find, and on how to identify trees by their patterns and designs — sometimes using our art eye can be very helpful for science.
Kathryn Kolb combines both skills as naturalist and fine art nature photographer, and she will show how the phi ratio and artful patterns of symmetry appear in leaves, tree forms and other natural forms. She’ll discuss interesting links between nature, art and nature photography, and she’ll offer tips on how to take better pictures in natural places. And we’ll have time to make photos of some of the great elder Oaks and Beech trees that are remnants of the original forest at Briarlake.
