Eco-A partners with Haiku poet, the Rev. Marti Keller and Decatur Active Living for a naturalist walk with haiku poetry writing. 

Delving more deeply into the art of observation, we’ll walk in Decatur’s Hidden Cove park and learn about its special qualities, and the plants, trees, birds, and wildlife that live there–and we’ll enjoy making our observations into Haiku poems, short verses meant to capture the here and now.

Marti Keller will give us some background about her art form, English language Haiku poetry, adapted from the Japanese art form, and she’ll share some creative pointers for converting your nature experiences into Haiku-style verse. 

The short, 3-line structure of Haiku lends itself to an easy and fun way to capture your nature inspirations in words. This will be a slow meditative walk, giving time to reflect and write in several special locations — please bring a note pad!

In addition to a long career as a nationally celebrated Unitarian Universalist Minister, feminist, and progressive activist, Marti Keller is also a poet, writing since childhood, with many published works, including her most recent “Thinking in Haiku.”
