Many urban forests and greenspaces suffer from invasive species like Kudzu, English Ivy, Wisteria and many others. These species suppress native species, reduce bio-diversity, and destroying healthy ecosystems.*

Metro Atlanta is gifted with extraordinarily high value urban forests — found from parks to backyards — even including old growth forest remnants. Removing invasives is essential for maintaining our region’s natural systems that not only support native plants and wildlife, but critically support green infrastructure services, such as breathable air, clean, stable waterways, and a comfortable local climate that sustains our health and all our economic endeavors.

Too often, choices are made to simply kill invasive species in ways that unnecessarily harm natives, which  undermines the outcome of true ecosystem restoration. When broadcast sprays or indiscriminate cutting harms all species, it’s the invasive species that grow back more quickly. This creates a cycle of more and more ecosystem damage over time, with more and more cost to landscape managers. EcoAddendum has pioneered the safest and most effective ways to remove even difficult invasives, like Kudzu, without using chemical sprays. Today we have a 10-year track record of success in parks and greenpaces in the cities of Atlanta, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs and Tucker as well as DeKalb County.

We offer professional invasive removal teams, lead volunteer events, and host classes and EcoSteward programs that train both local volunteers and career-minded professionals in how to safely and effectively remove invasive species and restore natural areas in communities throughout the Atlanta region and beyond. We’re committed to this effort, and we’d love to help to you achieve healthy ecosystem restoration in your community. Professional Invasive Removal Team

Our professional invasive removal team is led by Forest Restoration Specialist Dajawn Williams. We use no chemical sprays, work in every season, and every member of our pro team is species-trained and able to recognize the difference between invasive and native trees, vines, shrubs, and other plants, as well as identify rare species and eco-niche habitats.

Leading Volunteer Groups

Our staff and trained EcoStewards lead volunteers in urban forest restoration events throughout greater metro Atlanta. In addition to high value outdoor service experiences, volunteers learn about the natural systems and species they are helping to restore.

Greenspace Restoration Consulting

Executive Director and Master Naturalist Kathryn Kolb, leads our greenspace restoration management consulting team. Before taking any action in any greenspace, it’s critical to know the types of ecosystems and which native and invasive species are present.  Our plans include:

  • Inventory and Site Overview: includes an overview and history of the landscape, species surveys including native and invasive species, rare species, detailed ArcGIS maps (optional).
  • Restoration Management Plans: includes detailed outline for a 2- to 25-year plan for invasive species removal, with a prioritized, step-by-step prioritized plan for professional and/or volunteer work.
  • Re-planting: includes recommendations on planting needs, lists of the most appropriate native plants, shrubs, vines or trees and where to plant these in each ecological niche.
  • Educational Walks for Managers and Stakeholders: in-person walks show the special character of the each park of the park or greenspace, and can help generate public interest in stewardship participation.

Greenspace Restoration Training

Volunteer and Professional Grade

EcoAddendum is committed to helping communities preserve the rich biodiversity and healthy environment of our region.  We educate and train people of all ages and backgrounds about native plants, trees, the urban forest ecosystems they support, and very importantly, how to restore and maintain healthy natural areas for the future. Trainees learn to lead and teach others.
