Pine Log Creek Trail

May 4 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm

We’ve rescheduled this walk from our previous rained-out date. Since it’s a few weeks later than originally planned we should see a different set of wildflowers, and I’m sure we’ll hear and see many songbirds, including Black-throated Green and Black and White Warblers, Louisiana Waterthrush (because we heard them here a few weeks ago) and likely Scarlet Tanagers and possibly many other neo-tropical migrants.

The Pine Log Creek Trail is located in Bartow County in the southern rim of the North Georgia Mountains, northwest of Canton, GA. This walk features impressive displays of native wildflowers, especially our region’s remarkable spring ephemerals. These include several species of Trillium as well as Trout Lily, Showy Orchis, Bloodroot, Bellflower, Trailing Arbutus and many others that tell the story of a rich Appalachian forest floor. A 4.1 mile loop-trail hike takes us through mixed forests and past rock formations, eventually leading to a small lake that remains from a past quarrying activities — the feeling is of an enchanted place.

This is a moderate-level hike and gains about 700 ft in elevation. Expect roots and rocks along some trail sections.
