Poet Joan Walters, Island Ford Trails
November 4, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
We are absolutely delighted to be able to walk and talk with Atlanta-based poet Joan Walters!
Joan’s poetry is fresh and powerful and she takes us directly to the place where challenge, beauty and awe swirl into one.
Joan articulates a path toward strength and truth, and shows us how daily realities and observations, especially of nature, can become transcendent experiences. She seeks “the place where sound touches silence,” and she shows us how truth is linked to the spirals so beloved by nature’s hand, often by pairing photographs or illustrations with her writings in ways that perfectly underscore the intangible. Joan’s insightful writings encourage us to relax to a space beyond our day to day routines, and give us a welcoming oasis of camaraderie for those times when we all struggle.
We’ll walk on easy to moderate trails, approximately 1-2 miles, in the Island Ford section of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. We’ll stop at several locations to observe and feel the effects of trees, boulders, water, and to hear Joan’s readings, savoring her words for a deeper sense and connection to nature, as well as a heightened awareness of our own nature within — and how each reflects the other.
