Herbert Greene Park – Naturalist Walk
November 16, 2014 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Nov 16 – Herbert Greene Park
Naturalist Walk
Time: 1:30 – 4:00 PM
Location: Herbert Greene Park, Atlanta, GA
Herbert Greene Park is so great we just can’t stay away — if you missed our earlier outing to Herbert Greene, don’t miss your chance to join us for this one!
This less well-known greenspace located just outside I-285 in the geologically unique section of Atlanta’s western suburbs that include Boulder Park and Fulton County’s Boat Rock Nature Preserve. Surface outcrops of rounded, ancient boulders are found in the park as well as in the surrounding neighborhood.
A strikingly beautiful section of Utoy Creek traverses Herbert Greene, and we’ll follow the trail along Utoy Creek and its large tributary stream. This greenspace holds on to its rural character, and contains a diverse native forest rich with creeks and wetlands. More wildlife than is usual for an urban zone call this natural area home, from deer to tiny tree frogs and likely everyone in between. Connected closely to the Chattahoochee River corridor, this greenspace also hosts migrating and unusual birds.
Maturing diverse upland and riverine forest will provide wonderful opportunities to identify tree leaves by shape and fall color – don’t forget to bring your camera!
There is no fee to attend but please RSVP!
