EcoAddendum and the City of Sandy Springs partner in hosting Eco-Stewards programs to help care for Sandy Springs parks and greenspaces.
The Eco-Steward program includes one 2-3 hour class and one 2-3 hour volunteer session each month. Participants will learn the fundamental ecology, natural history, and current forest dynamics of any landscape in Sandy Springs, metro Atlanta and the Georgia Piedmont.
You’ll learn:
• at least 50 tree species
• native and invasive plants
• rare and old growth forest indicator species
• how to safely remove invasive species without using chemical sprays
• and how to lead other volunteers and help plan park and greenspace restoration projects.
• • •
Parks and natural landscapes are threatened by invasive species, but using chemical spray treatments and indiscriminate forest clearing only further harms our fragile ecosystems and park health. To best restore our parks and greenspaces we must first understand each natural landscape to discover the best approach. Park leaders and staff can’t do the job alone, so Sandy S
prings needs help from neighbors and residents who are trained volunteers, and who can then help lead and train others.
