SUMMARY:Winter Tree Walk\, Sweetwater Creek State Park
DESCRIPTION:\nRescheduled from Jan 29\nOnly half an hour west of Atlanta lies Sweetwater Creek State Park\, hosting 15 miles of trails and its namesake\, Sweetwater Creek\, which should truly be considered a river for its size and character. This creek joins the Chattahoochee River just downstream from the park boundary. We’ll take one of the paths less traveled to enjoy a range of ecosystems and native trees – from beaver-chewed Sweetgums and Sweetleaf in the floodplains\, to old growth Chestnut Oak and Hickories on the ridges. Winter is a great season for learning to identify trees by their bark patterns and growth forms. The trail we’ll walk has a high diversity of tree species native to the Georgia Piedmont.\nWe’ll walk approximately 3.5 miles on well-used natural trails. Parts of the trail are fairly flat along the creek\, with some sections climbing and descending moderate hills\, a few with steeper slopes.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE\n\n\nLimit 15\, details and directions sent to registered participants.\nA donation of  $15 or more helps support our programs.\n
