DESCRIPTION: \nVolunteer with Eco-A and partners:\n                  \nBrookhaven Parks & Recreation Coalition (PARC) & City of Brookhaven\n\n\nWe need your help! \n\nToday our natural landscapes are threatened by invasive species\, but using chemical treatments and indiscriminate clearing only further harms fragile ecosystems. Let’s do it right – enjoy outdoor time with friends and neighbors in helping to safely remove invasive species to restore park health.\nWe’ll remove English Ivy and other invasive species in several locations in a quiet woodland greenspace just off Apple Valley Rd. in Brookhaven. We’ll enjoy the creek and perhaps see the first hints of spring or spring ephemeral wildflowers.\nWe’ll walk approximately .5 miles on and off trail and possibly on some steep slopes. Please bring work gloves and we recommend wearing long sleeves\, long pants\, and sturdy shoes\, as we may be working in shrubby areas. \nYou’ll learn about the special quality of Brookhaven Parks\, including their trees\, wildlife\, rare species and how to identify old growth forest remnants — which might even be found in your back yard! \n \nTrain with us and receive Eco-Naturalist certification and become a Brookhaven Parks Steward and teach others!\nDue to Covid-19 precautions\, we are not re-using gloves\, so please bring your own\, or we can provide a brand new\, unused pair for $5 that you can take home with you (and use next time).  \nWe’ll supply tools such as clippers\, loppers\, small saws\, and digging tools\, but feel free to bring your own.\nThis is a Covid-safe event — we’ll be outdoors at all times following CDC recommended guidelines.
