SUMMARY:The Power of Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:\nThis walk is full – now taking wait list\nWe are thrilled to be able to partner with EcoAddendum’s founder\, Pandra Williams\, in a very special event at her Beech Hollow Wildflower Farm\, located about half an hour east of Athens\, GA.\nIn addition to growing over 100 species of Georgia native plants (from seeds she collects herself)\, Pandra has also become very well versed on the native bees that pollinate them. Flowers often have complicated flower structures that ensure bees provide efficient pollination services in return for the nectar they receive. Pandra’s fascinating presentation on the variety of bee species and how their intricate life cycles intertwine with those wildflowers on whom they depend\, will enlighten your understanding of the beautiful complexities of the natural world.\nFrom squash to blueberries\, native bees are our best garden assistants. That buzzing sound tells us bumblebees and other species are pollinating our vegetables more effectively than honeybees. It only takes 250 native mason bees to pollinate 1 acre of apple orchard\, while it takes 60\,000-120\,000 honey bees to do the same job! Managing our yards to include native plants for pollinators helps keep our ecosystem intact.\nWe’ll tour the wildflower nursery\, then view Pandra’s pollinator presentation over lunch at the new post-and-beam Art Barn event space. We’ll also have the option for an afternoon hike through the Beech Hollow’s 1o0-acre forest\, and Pandra will share her vision for her new piedmont prairie project.\n \nLimit 20 • Cost: $25 (includes BBQ lunch with veggie sides\, vegetarian option also available) Note: Special offers on ½ tray & full trays of bee-friendly meadow and nectar plants will be available to Power of Pollinator guests.\nTo register click HERE  (RSVP by June 4) – Details and Directions sent to registered participants. \n\nA donation of $15 or more helps support our programs.\n
