SUMMARY:South Bend Stewardship for Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer with us! — Eco-A\, Friends of South Bend Park and Sustainable Lakewood invite you to join us for greenspace restoration events at South Bend Park in 2023!\nWe’ll remove invasive species\, in several different locations\, and share interesting info about the special features of South Bend and Atlanta’s superlative urban forest\, including about trees\, birds and local wildlife. You’ll even learn some of the edible or practical uses of some of the invasive species we are clearing from the park – that might also be found in your backyard!\nAt the end of our session we’ll visit a beautiful section of the South River in the park. Volunteer with us regularly and you’ll have the opportunity to earn Eco-Naturalist certifications. \nWe’ll walk approximately .5 – 1 miles on paved or natural trails\, along with some off-trail locations. Please bring work gloves and we recommend wearing long sleeves\, long pants\, and sturdy shoes\, as we may be working in shrubby areas. \n\n\nDue to Covid-19 precautions\, we are not re-using gloves\, so please bring your own\, or we can provide a brand new\, unused pair for $5 that you can take home with you (and use next time).  –  We’ll supply tools such as clippers\, loppers\, small saws\, and digging tools.  \nThis is a Covid-safe event — we’ll be outdoors at all times following CDC recommended guidelines.
