SUMMARY:Settles Bridge Park\, Gwinnett County
DESCRIPTION:Settles Bridge Park lies at the north end of the series of protected natural areas along the Chattahoochee River corridor in north-metro Atlanta. The park contains over 200 acres of native forest as well as developed recreational amenities\, and it lies adjacent to the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area properties with interconnecting trails leading to the Chattahoochee River. The park is named for an old bridge that spans the River near the southwest corner of the park. The bridge was built in the late 1800s\, and though the wooden parts have decayed over time\, the steel frame remains in place. Mature Oaks\, Hickories and Beech along with a high diversity of other tree species illustrate an intact native forest\, and notably\, there are very few invasive species here\, which is a true delight to the eye for those used to seeing so many more invasives in most greenspaces closer to town. \nWe’ll walk the longer loop on natural surface trails for about 3 miles or up to 3.5 miles to include the bridge.  Trails are well-defined and well-marked and fairly easy to walk\, though there are several hills and roots in some places. Restrooms are located at the parking area.\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE  \n\nDetails and directions sent to registered participants (limit 15) A donation of $20 or more helps sustain our programs.\nPhotos at Settles Bridge Park by Kathryn Kolb \n
