SUMMARY:Sanctuary Walk\, Lithonia\, GA
DESCRIPTION:\nNew date June 27\, 9:00 AM\nEco-A and guests are invited to enjoy the Elizabeth and Jim Williams Nature Trail\, at the private forest of Walter Williams in Lithonia\, GA.\nOur host\, Walter Williams\, will lead us on a tour and share his 20-year experience in creating his sanctuary\, a 11-acre forest preserve\, which includes a significant tributary of the South River.\nWe’ll begin at an oak-crowned ridge that slopes down to the creek. Across the creek is a large cove hardwood forest which is being restored as wildlife habitat and nature preserve. Deer\, otter\, and many other species are at home here\, and pocket wetlands support amphibians such as chorus frogs\, whose songs are now just beginning to be heard — the classic herald of spring in the south.\nWe’ll walk approximately 1-1.5 miles from yard and floodplain through natural trails in the woodland. We’ll show how this forest is an important recovering wildlife habitat for the area\, and there are several uncommon species that show that this woodland is a remnant of the original forest of the region. Watershed is an important part of this forest\, and we’ll include a short search for frogs and salamanders\, and share information about their lives and habitat needs.\nAfter the walk\, Walter has generously offered to give us a tour of his impressive collection of bonsai\, which he has carefully cultivated for decades. Click HERE to read his story “Journey to Sanctuary.” \n \nTo register (RSVP) click HERE – details and directions sent to registered participants.  \nLimit 10 — we will practice viral safety protocols during the walk if these are still required by this date\, per CDC recommendations.  \nA donation of $15 or more helps support our programs.\n  \n  \n  \n  \n
