SUMMARY:Old Growth Original Forest in Beecher Hills
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta is known as “The City in a Forest.” One reason our forest is so special is because\, through accidents of history\, our greenspaces still hold remnants of the original forest of our region. Beecher Hills is one of these impressive locations. Many of the forest inhabitants here are directly descended from those that knew the Creek Native Americans\, whose town and trails were located nearby. \nWe should find some interesting native plants\, and see several magnificent trees\, including an astounding Northern Red Oak\, beautiful beeches and native umbrella magnolias.\nEnglish ivy and several other invasive plants threaten this special forest.  Please join us for a short work session to remove some of these natives at the end of our walk. \nTo register\, click HERE.  Details and directions will be sent to registered participants. \nA donation of $15 or more helps sustain our programs.\n\nChampion Northern Red Oak\, possibly old growth (photo © Kathryn Kolb)\n
