SUMMARY:Old Growth Tulip Tree\, Conasauga Ranger District\, N GA
DESCRIPTION:Once again\, we’re hiking with our friends from the Piedmont Women’s Heart Health program – and of course men are most welcome to join!  \nThis time we’ll be hiking in the North Georgia Mountains along the Bear Creek Trail in the Conasauga Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest. We’ll visit the Gennett Tulip Poplar tree\, a very old tree left standing after widespread logging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries took nearly all old growth trees from the original forests of Georgia. No one knows for sure\, the but age of the Gennett Tulip Poplar is estimated to be at least 300 and possibly 500 years old or older. Our trail hosts a maturing hardwood forest where older soils give rise to a rich variety of native species. Streamside habitats add to the area’s biodiversity.  \nWe’ll walk approximately 3 miles\, on natural trails\, enjoying the rich woodlands. We’ll stop for snacks/lunch\, and to talk about the interesting trees\, plants and other points of interest we find along the way. \nTo register\, click HERE or contact Avril James Maynard\, MPH\, CHES\, Women’s Heart Program Coordinator • 470.585.2312\nDetails and directions sent to registered particpants. A donation of $15 or more helps support our programs.\nExplore more programs at Piedmont Women’s Heart Health www.piedmont.org/womensheartsupport \nhttps://www.piedmont.org/heart/services-and-programs/womens-heart/ContentPage.aspx?nd=12072\n
