SUMMARY:Old Growth Forest Walk Proctor Creek with Georgia Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:Ridgetop oaks near Grove Park photo©KKolb \nGeorgia Conservancy partners with Eco-A for a naturalist walk led by Kathryn Kolb in one of the remnants of the original forest of our region. Such high value forests\, found in pockets throughout the Atlanta metro area\, are what makes Atlanta’s urban forests so special\, and sets Atlanta apart from other major cities worldwide. This forested slope is tucked in along the Proctor Creek corridor near Atlanta’s Grove Park. We’ll explore ridge\, cove and riparian hardwood forest areas with a variety of oaks and beech trees\, in addition to walking along the stream corridor at Proctor Creek.  Older trees\, uncommon species and rare native plant communities tell the tale of this greenspace\, not generally open to the public. You’ll see why this area is so special\, and why it deserves our focus on very careful forest restoration efforts. \n(For more info on how to help to restore this greenspace see https://www.ecoaddendum.org/5-star-proctor-creek-national-fish-wildlife-foundation-grant-project/)\nPart of this walk will include walking off-trail in somewhat steep areas\, and there might be mud along the stream section. Please call 404-862-0118 if you have any questions.\nFee $15 per participant • Limit 16\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE – details and directions sent to registered participants. \n  \n  \nProctor Creek near Grove Park\, photo ©Kathryn Kolb \n
