SUMMARY:Lionel Hampton-Beecher Hills Stewardship Walk
DESCRIPTION:Eco-A partners with James Tyler and Friends of Lionel Hampton-Beecher Hills Nature Preserve for a Stewardship naturalist education & volunteer work session.\nNote: Participation in this Stewardship session counts as credit toward completion of our new on-line Eco-Literacy course.\nWe’ll begin this walk at the Cativo Drive trailhead rather than the Willis Mill trailhead to the park. We’ll focus on eradicating an outbreak of Japanese Chaff Flower (JCF) then walk about 1.5 to 2 miles on natural trails to look for more JCF while also learning about the various forest types along the way. We may go a little off trail in some places\, and we may have the opportunity to visit a very special tree. \nWe’ll also teach native and non-native plant ID skills that can be applied to any forest or woodland area – maybe even your backyard. Everyone learns something new on every walk. \nPlease bring a face mask\, to wear when 6 feet apart from other folks (You may not have to wear your mask fully if you are working more than 12 feet away from other folks.) \n\nAlso bring water\, and wear closed-toed shoes\, you may prefer long pants and sleeves.\nWork gloves are recommended\, and due to covid-19 precautions we are currently not re-using gloves\, but we’ll have extra pairs of brand new gloves available for $5 which you can take home with you. \nTo register (RSVP) click HERE  – Details and directions sent to registered participants (limit 10)\nA donation of $15 or more helps sustain our programs.\nMore about James Tyler:\nJames Tyler is Co-Chair of the Friends of Cascade Springs Nature Preserve\, is a naturalist-in-the-making\, an avid bicyclist and Advisory Board Member of Eco-A. He is active in Southwest Atlanta Parks that\, as he says\, “quietly provide life giving and life sustaining tree canopy that moderates our City’s climate. These forests exude psychological and health benefits to the surrounding neighborhood residents yet are often taken for granted.”\n
