SUMMARY:Help! Chaff Flower in Johnson-Taylor Park
DESCRIPTION:We need your help to control and eradicate the extremely invasive Japanese Chaff Flower plant that is trying to take over Johnson-Taylor Park and many other parks and greenspaces in metro Atlanta. One plant can produce from a few dozen to over 1000 seeds\, and the seeds have a 96% germination rate! — do the math\, and you can see how populations of this plant explode exponentially. It’s harder to get rid of than than Kudzu or English Ivy.\nThe seeds of this plant easily catch on dogs’ fur\, and are therefore spreading most quickly along trails in all places where people walk dogs (and of course off trails when dogs aren’t kept on their leash).\nFew people are aware of the overwhelming and devastating impacts this plant can cause when it shades out all other plant growth as it quickly develops into dense stands.\nWe’ll assist Friends of Johnson-Taylor park\, who are renewing efforts to remove invasive species from this local gem greenspace that includes pockets of old growth forest and a number of champion trees.\nThis season is a critical time to stop this plant\, because it’s easy to identify when the plants are large\, and the plants are about to shed literally thousands of seeds in the park in the next two months. \nBring yourself\, and a friend if you can\, gloves\, a trowel or another small digging tool or small shovel and help out the Friends of Johnson-Taylor Forest!\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE – details and directions sent to registered participants. \nA donation of $15 or more helps support our programs.\nFor more info on Japanese Chaff Flower:\nInvasive Japanese Chaff Flower \n \n  \nJapanese chaff flower – a silent crisis lurking on Georgia trails \n \n
