DESCRIPTION:\nLet’s get a jumpstart on spring 2026 with a beautiful trail along the Chattahoochee!\nJoin us on our first metro-area walk this year along the upper Chattahoochee River in the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area’s Gold Branch unit\, which hosts 7 miles of trails through high value forests that luckily harbor few invasive species. Trout Lilies\, Touthworts and a few of our earliest spring ephemerals are beginning to show in our rich forests. \nWe’ll hike about 2.5 to 3 miles on well-traveled natural trails through a forest that changes character as we turn from one slope to the next\, and descend from ridge to riverbank. There are a number of moderate hills\, and the trail is rocky in some places. We’ll be rewarded with a remarkably intact forest of native trees\, including slopes with large Beech trees\, and a few indicator species should be visible\, such as the native Cranefly orchid and Hepatica. With leaves off the trees\, we’ll have sweeping ridgetop views of the Chattahoochee River.
