DESCRIPTION:Skylight reflects on the information panel including family photos at Frazier-Rowe Park. \nThis walk is full – now taking wait list\nThis park is larger than it looks\, tucked away in DeKalb County’s Oak Grove neighborhood\, near the bustling neighborhood center at Lavista and Oak Grove roads.\nFrazier-Rowe is named for the families that came together to donate the land for this park that is a legacy of the Mt. Zion community\, a small African-American enclave of the 1800s which included landowners such as the Nelms\, Rowe and Stokes families\, and the Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church\, the oldest AME church in DeKalb.\nWith TLC from neighbors\, the park entrance area has been restored from a tangle of invasive vines to a recovering forest with native plants being re-introduced. A trail from the entrance slopes down to an older forest where majestic beeches\, tulip trees and even an umbrella magnolia shade a good-sized creek. After crossing the creek\, the trail rises to the next ridge where elder sourwoods\, oaks and hickories reign on the hill top.\nThis is a fairly short walk\, a mile or less\, with 2 hills on natural trails.\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE \ndetails & directions sent to registered participants \na suggested donation of $15 or more helps fund our programs\n
