SUMMARY:Flint River History Kayak & Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a paddle and an overnight camp-out on the Flint River. On Saturday we’ll do a 1/2 day paddle with expert Flint river guide Quint Rogers — and yes he is related to Flint Riverkeeper Gordon Rogers.\nWe’ll take out in the afternoon and tent camp by river’s edge on a private property near Snipe Shoals. Eco-A will be the only group present\, by the generous invitation of the owner.  We’ll be primitive camping in a large open field by the river beach with forested slopes beyond.\nQuint Rogers will share his wealth of knowledge about river ecology\, and we’ll learn about the Muscogee Creek and early American history of this part of Georgia\, which was a critically important frontier political center in the late 1700s and early 1800s.\nSunday we’ll visit the grave site of Benjamin Hawkins\, appointed by President George Washington as General Superintendent of Indian Affairs. He was an important liaison to\, and in some ways protector of\, the Lower Creek Nation during the tumultuous decades before the Creek were forced West\, including the War of 1812 an the subsequent “Red Stick” Creek Civil War. We may also have the opportunity to visit a private museum of regional artifacts (subject to Covid 19 safety protocols).\nTrip is limited to 10 attendees.\nEach attendee/couple will bring their own food. We’ll build a fire for cooking or you can bring your own camp cooking gear. There are no facilities at the camp site\, but your gear including coolers will be shuttled to the camping area.\nNote: We’ll practice social distancing protocols as recommended by the CDC on this trip.\nTrip fee $125 per person\, includes kayak rental\, shuttles and program.\nQuestions? contact us or call 404-862-0118\n \n\n
