SUMMARY:Arabia Mountain - Faith in Nature Walk
DESCRIPTION:Interfaith Walk  – Sunday\, March 15\nPlease join us for a naturalist walk followed by an interfaith discussion at Arabia Mountain. We invite members of all religious traditions to share readings that reveal understandings and perspectives about the natural world and our relationship to it.\nAfter the naturalist part of our walk\, we’ll gather at the top of the mountain where walkers of diverse faiths are invited to bring and share readings\, personal writings\, stories\, or other thoughts and sentiments with the group. Unitarian Universalist Minister and nature poet\, Marti Keller\, also a former Board member of Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta\, will facilitate our discussion.\nArabia Mountain\, like Stone Mountain and Panola Mountain\, is an ancient rock dome (batholith) that now hosts a variety of unusual and some endangered rare plants. These sometimes tiny life forms can show bright colors\, especially in the early spring\, while also being extremely tough in meeting the challenges of living on an exposed rock in the South where they must endure sub-freezing winter temperatures as well as the oven-dry heat of summer with temperatures well over 100˚ F\, with no rain for weeks.\nThe rock dome of Arabia Mountain dates back to some of the most ancient land forms on our planet\, created well before the plants and animals familiar to us today came into being.  It’s the perfect setting to talk about the commonalities we share with all of Nature\, and the intangible ways of understanding life on our planet.\nEnjoyable\, enlightening – and don’t forget to bring your camera!\nWe’ll walk  approx. 1.5 mile\,  slow and easy but some parts of the mountain are fairly steep.\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE   –  Details & Meeting Directions sent to Registered Participants.\n(a suggested donation of $15 or more helps fund our high quality programs)\n\n\n” When we look into the heart of a flower\, we see clouds\, sunshine\, minerals\, time\, the earth\, and everything else in the cosmos in it.”\n– Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh\n“Truth Springs up from the earth”\n– Psalms 85:12\n” Behold! In the creation\nOf the heavens and the earth;\nin the alternation of Night and theDay…\nIn the beasts of all kind\nThat he scatters\nThrough the earth…\n(Here) indeed are Signs\nFor a people that are wise.”\n– Qur’an 2:164\n“Embracing earth\, you day by daybring forth your blessings on our way\, Alleluia\, Alleluia!\nAll herbs and fruits that richly grow\,\nlet them the glory also show.”\n– St. Francis of Assisi:\nDiamorpha and other plants and lichens\, early spring at Arabia Mountain.\n
