SUMMARY:Deepdene Forest
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps you have drive right by Deepdene Park without realizing it\, as it runs along Ponce de Leon Ave near the intersection with East Lake Drive\, not far from Fernbank Museum. At approximately 22 acres\, Deepdene forms the largest\, eastern-most part of the Olmstead Linear Parks.\nDeKalb County Commissioner Kathie Gannon joins us in exploring this park\, which is a remnant of the original old growth forest along with the other well-known old growth remnants at Fernbank Forest and Frazer Forest. Though fairly small\, this is a rich habitat with a wide assortment of tree species and several old growth trees including Champion trees for our area. Several of the old trees are exceptionally tall\, including one of the tallest Tulip Poplar trees in the Atlanta metro area.\nOur walk will be an easy ramble of approx. 1-5 miles on natural trails – you’ll want to bring your camera!\nTo register (RSVP) click HERE  \nDetails and directions sent to\nregistered participants.\n\nA donation of $15 or more helps our programs.\nDeepdene Forest photo © Kathryn Kolb\n  \n
