SUMMARY:Cherokee History\, Overhill Towns with Quentin Bass
DESCRIPTION:\nThis event is full – now taking waitlist\nThose who have joined us on previous tours with Quentin Bass know well what a privilege it is to spend time with someone who can truly be referred to as “a walking encyclopedia” of the Cherokee and early American history of our region. Quentin’s stories are both engaging and enlightening\, revealing the complex truths of the people and times that shaped the foundations of our country and culture. \nHistorical sites at the forefront of American wars and politics\, that shaped many of central figures of American history not so long ago\, are now found along small\, quiet roads in what are today beautiful rural settings well off the beaten path.\nWe’ll begin this trip in Tellico Plains\, TN and follow the 10\,000 year-old Unicoi Path\, (part of which became later known as the Trail of Tears) and visit the historic site of the great Council House at Chota\, the “mother town\,” which was the cultural as well as population center of the Cherokee Nationfrom 1650-the early 1800s. We’ll end the day visiting the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum (owned and operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians).\nFor those who wish to stay overnight\, we’ll host an optional hike the following morning\, Sun Sept 26\, on a trail along the Cherohala Skyway.  \nNotes: If you are planning to stay overnight\, we recommend The Lodge at Tellico\, in Tellico Plains\, TN — and you might give yourself a little extra time to meet at Tellico Grains artisan bakery\, for a cup of coffee\, scone\, pastry or a sandwich for lunch (and the best coffee-chocolate brownie ever.) \n \n$35 Sat only\, $45 Sat & Sun \nTo register (RSVP) click HERE  – Details and directions sent to registered participants. Limit 12.\nA donation of $15 or more helps support our programs.\nQuestions? – call 404-862-0118\n\n
