DESCRIPTION:APR 5 – Whittier Mill Park\, along the Chattahoochee River\n\nSaturday  – 9:30 – noon\nCost:  No cost for this event – a suggested donation of $15 or more helps fund high quality programs\nLocation: West Atlanta near Bolton Rd & South Cobb Drive\nThis little-known park is a fairly large gem that that is being wonderfully restored by committed neighbors.  The park encompasses the area remaining from an old textile mill and home site with additional trails runing along the Chattahoochee River.  A classic riverine mix of hardwoods is the base for this recovering forest with pockets here and there of quite old trees. We’ll see invasive species and some of the recovering native in the field area\, then we’ll explore along the river where we may see river turtles basking in the sun\, and colorful songbirds migrating up the river corridor. Bring your binoculars. There is also a special stand of mature Eastern Cottonwood and very large Hackberry trees. Much recovering Elderberry can also be found and a high population of frogs that sing both day and night in nearly all seasons\, due to low drainage and ponding in one area.
