SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop with Common Medicinal Yard Plants & Trees
DESCRIPTION:\nThis event is full – now taking waitlist\nYou may choose to abandon the word “weed” after you learn the surprising values of several of the trees and plants (both native and non-native) we find in our yards and greenspaces. We’ll learn to identify several of these species and herbalist Susan Edwards will discuss their values and further show us how to gather and make preparations of various wild teas\, vinegars\, tinctures\, and even topical soothing salves. We’ll go on a plant gathering walk then make an herbal preparation in a workshop format outdoors using what we gathered along our walk.  Each participant will leave with their very own herbal remedy that they made themselves\, along with the knowledge of how to prepare other safe plants in a similar fashion. We will only be working with safe\, very common plants and trees you are likely already familiar with.\n \nDid you know Pine needles help combat cold and flu?  That a humble yard plant Plantago\, that we commonly step on or mow\, can help ease the pain of bug bites and infections? And the beautiful (but invasive) Mimosa tree can bring uplift and help ease even mild depression? We will work with these plants and many more in this mini-workshop which goes a step further from explaining how to prepare herbal remedies and shows\, hands-on\, how to make them. \nJoin us for an informative and healthful 3-hour walk and workshop. We’ll taste a wild tea\, discuss how to make various herbal preparations\, and make a take home remedy on site with easy to identify local tree leaves or common yard plants. \nCost is $35 and includes educational program plus materials for you to make and bring home your very own herbal vinegar honey preparation using the plant of your choice from our gathering walk on site at South Bend Park. \nCost $35  — to register (RSVP) click HERE  – Details and directions sent to registered participants (limit 15)\nA donation of $15 or more helps sustain our programs.\n
