Yellow River Park – Gwinnett County

July 29, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

This event is full – now taking wait list

Yellow River Park is likely off the beaten path for many Atlantans, though its nearly 700 acres a hosts a beautiful stretch of the Yellow River, which drains the east side of Stone Mountain, drops down just west of Covington, through Porterdale, GA, and later joins Atlanta’s South River to form the Ocmulgee River at Jackson Lake north of Macon.

This park contains many miles of trails in addition to a playground and other facilities. Our trail runs through maturing woods that offer surprisingly majestic overlooks of the river gorge from high rocky bluffs in several places. A wide variety of tree species, and fairly healthy native plant communities complement diverse bird life, including resident kingfishers and great blue herons, and impressively sized turtles call the Yellow River home in this location.

We’ll walk about 2.5 – 3 miles along natural trails close to the river. Our walk will be relatively easy with a few minor hills –a short steep scramble might be needed for those wishing to get right to the waters’s edge.
