Spink Collins Park Stewardship Walk

July 20, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Eco-A partners with Friends of Spink Collins Park for a Stewardship learn and work volunteer session.

We’ll focus on how to recognize the difference between native and non-native species, and how to carefully remove invasive species from some of the park’s most sensitive areas that host remnants of the old growth forest. We’ll also focus on identifying and removing Japanese chaff flower, one of the worst and fastest growing invasive plants we’ve ever seen, which is being carried to our park by dogs. The seeds catch easily on dogs’ fur, or even our pant legs and shoes.

We’ll also revisit tree, native and invasive plant identification, and we’ll listen for our summer nesting songbirds and look for wildlife signs.  We’ll walk about 1 mile on natural trails, and we may be in muddy areas near the creek for part of the session.
