Sandy Springs Secret Greenspace

May 12 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 pm

A small, lovely greenspace can be found near Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs — I accidentally discovered this unique natural area during visits to the nearby vet clinic. A small creek with rocky cascades borders a steep slope hosting a forest with chestnut oak and mountain laurel – very unusual for the metro area. Other uncommon species can be found in this surprisingly rich area, which is reminiscent of a cooler, Georgia mountain ecology.  This greenspace is an oasis in one of the most rapidly developing landscapes on Atlanta’s Northside. But you can still enjoy a quiet moment here, where the sounds of water falling over rocks completely drowns out the urban cacaphony.

Our naturalist walk will be about a mile at most, along natural trails that can be quite narrow, sometimes with steep areas. We’ve timed this walk hopefully for the moment the mountain laurel will be in full bloom!
