Sandy Springs Secret Greenspace
June 2, 2019 @ 8:45 am - 10:15 am
Event Navigation
Rescheduled from original May 12 date.
A small, lovely greenspace can be found near Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs — I accidentally discovered this unique natural area during visits to the nearby vet clinic. A small creek with rocky cascades borders a steep slope hosting a forest with chestnut oak and mountain laurel – very unusual for the metro area. Other uncommon species can be found in this surprisingly rich area, which is reminiscent of a cooler, Georgia mountain ecology. This greenspace is an oasis in one of the most rapidly developing landscapes on Atlanta’s Northside. But you can still enjoy a quiet moment here, where the sounds of water falling over rocks completely drowns out the urban cacaphony.
Our naturalist walk will be about a mile at most, along natural trails that can be quite narrow, sometimes with steep areas.
