Private Preserve Brunch

March 8, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Sunday, March 8 – this event is full

Join us for a very special walk and brunch hosted by Eco-A’s dear friend, Debra Pearson. Now retired from teaching, Debra has created a small forest preserve in her backyard in College Park, and with extraordinary generosity, offers to share her inspiration with like-minded nature-appreciators who may wish to do something similar in their backyards.
“I want people to experience my back yard because of the devastation and destruction that precipitated it’s creation.  I want them to understand how the compassion and support I received from souls like Kathryn, Jessica, and Neil served as a great healing–both for the land and for it’s owner.” – Debra Pearson
We’ll go for a short walk on the trails, looking at the trees and several of the forest plants that are still found in this woodland oasis, which is also an important habitat for hawks and other birds and wildlife. Debra will share how a tree tragedy next door helped her create a positive haven in her yard with help from Eco-A and Arborist Neil Norton, who will also be present to share information about tree care.

We’ll also enjoy a wonderful home-cooked brunch on the garden patio — Debra’s specialty is Salmon Cakes accompanied by Yellow Grits, Scrambled Eggs & Buttermilk Biscuits. (Do we need to ask how it could possibly be better than this?)
Come celebrate a true steward of the environment, Debra Pearson, and see how much nature we can restore for our region in our urban and suburban yards.
