Line Creek Nature Area, Peachtree City

September 28, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

We’re excited to lead a walk in this remarkable greenspace located surprisingly close to developed areas in Peachtree City, GA., a community known for golf cart transportation south of the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, about 30 minutes south of downtown Atlanta.

Line Creek Natural Area comprises 70 acres of diverse habitat managed by the Southern Conservation Trust. The creek itself is the centerpiece, running through interesting geologic forms including small rock outcrops and boulders, slowing from time to time in pools and rock-strewn shoals, and finally emptying into wetlands and a lake hosting an array of wildlife from beaver to osprey. Habitat type ranges from streamside marsh to botanically rich slopes to drier rises capped with oaks, hickories, persimmon, sassafras, much sparkleberry, and even a few prickly pear cactus.

Likely the rockiness of much of this woodland protected it from soil disturbances from farming and development, though mills were built along the creek. The unusually rocky substrate also supports uncommon species.

We’ll walk about 2.5 miles on natural trails that have rocks and roots in some areas, with several stops along the stream for viewing, picture taking — and maybe even foot-dipping if it’s a warm day.
