Hidden Cove Park Stewardship Walk

August 16, 2020 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am

Eco-A will be hosting a Stewardship Walk & volunteer workday at Hidden Cove Park in the Decatur/Druid Hills area near Westchester Elementary School.

Note: Participation in this Stewardship session counts as credit toward completion of our new on-line Eco-Literacy course.

We’ll begin with an urban forest orientation to the unusually high value of greenspaces in our area, including how to recognize the value of this park near Druid Hills. We’ll have a training and work session on how to recognize and remove invasive species, particularly Japanese Chaff Flower, which is beginning to form its seeds now and for the next few weeks.  An ounce of prevention is worth many tons of cure for this new and very aggressive invasive plant often spread by dogs. (Read more about Japanese Chaff Flower HERE.)

Join neighbors and friends as we work together to knock out hot spots of Japanese Chaff Flowerbefore it takes over this Decatur park gem.

We’ll show you how to identify a variety of both native and non-native species, and how to most safely and effectively remove invasive species. The skills learned in our Stewardship Walks can be applied to any forest or woodland area in our region – even your own backyard!

This is a safe, socially distanced activity that will greatly help this greenspace. Please bring water, wear closed-toed shoes, and please bring your own work gloves — or we can provide a brand new, un-used pair of work gloves to you for $5 dollars, which you can keep and take home.

You will be required to wear a face mask if 6 feet apart from others, if you are working 20 feet apart or more from other folks you may not need to wear your face mask.  It will be easy for folks to spread out for the volunteer work session.

To register (RSVP) click HERE  – Details and directions sent to registered participants.

A donation of $15 or more helps sustain our programs.
