Herbert Greene Park

November 14, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Sycamore, River Birch, Beech, Sourwood Black Gum and Scarlet Oak show interesting bark patterns and fall color at Herbert Greene Park, one of Atlanta’s less known parks in the aptly named Boulder Park neighborhood. This park hosts a beautiful section of Utoy Creek after the North and South Forks have combined to create a large creek, nearly a small river, that runs on to join the Chattahoochee River just a few miles to the west. As the creek widens, we find sand bars and boulders, and Basket Oak, rare in our area, is also found in the floodplain. A wide array of wildlife are at home here — we’ll look for tracks.

We’ll walk approximately 2 miles on natural trails on on flat terrain, and we’ll have time to stop to make photographs in several locations.
