Dec 6 – Tanyard Creek/Cathedral Woods
Naturalist Walk
Time: 9:30 – 11:30 PM
Location: Tanyard Creek Park, Atlanta, GA
This section of Tanyard Creek Park has earned the name Cathedral Woods because this little pocket of land, now located along the Beltline, was left un-developed and according to historic records may have been a rare un-tilled bottomland along Tanyard Creek. Therefore remnants of the original native forest can be found here, including a state-champion Ash tree along with impressive Cottonwoods, Sycamore and an unusual population of native Red Mulberry (which begs a trip back in the spring when they are ripe and ready for morning cereal or pie!) We’ll have a chance to focus on learning our trees species, from bark and growth form as well as leaves, in this historic forest which was also the site of a significant Civil War battlefield.
There is no fee to attend but please RSVP!
