Brownwood Park – Naturalist and Photography Walk

July 11, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Brownwood Park is an older Atlanta park, approximately 3 blocks long, surrounded by the homes of the East Atlanta neighborhood, not far from the intersection of Glenwood and Flat Shoals. Older trees, including several interesting species, are found along the stream running through the park’s center. This park is well-cared for by an active community of neighbors, and park amenities include a recreation center as well as a community garden. Neighbors and park caretakers Alex Levy, Senior Ecologist, and Jay Kirkland (aspiring) Geoscientist will help lead our walk, and show us their work and plans to remove invasive plants and replant native plants and trees.

We’ll walk an easy loop trail, noting both native and non-native plants and tree. This will be great opporunity to identify many of our native trees and learn to distinguish them from invasive species.

And for photographers, we’ll also focus on the artful designs found in leaves and other natural forms, and the interesting geometries that are common to both art and nature. We encourage all to make photographs to be displayed in our 2nd annual Eco-A Photography Show taking place at at City Hall next spring.

Bring your camera — or we can provide one for you!
